Unions threats to society

ussr I was never a big fan of … eh … Big Labor and could never find anything positive in straightjacket, political unionism. Post-junta Greece has an ominous history of public sector union interference with the collective good and the stability of the country. But being a union boss is far from a blot on one’s CV. Traditionally, the public sector’s union bosses, among the most reactionary, boneheaded actors of the Greek political system, happily graduate into the ranks of the Pasok “socialists,” after they finish with causing the country immeasurable damage, and occupy a seat in parliament. This is how you’re rewarded in this country for all your efforts to diminish its economy, corrode its society, and cause as much trouble for the simple man in the street as possible.

As we speak, Big Labor (i.e. public sector labor) is again damaging the country below the waterline with such vengeance that an outsider would be hard pressed to distinguish between these “Greeks” and foreign saboteurs bend on stopping Hellas in its tracks.

The power company strike has disabled 19 electricity generating plants and has thus removed 50 percent of the total generating capacity of the country from consumers. Power outages are spreading throughout Greece and affecting both home owners and industry (the bosses smirk on television and accuse the government of being responsible for the outages).

The central bank strike has already cost hundreds of millions of euros in lost business and has removed Greece from international financial markets. The central bank strikers have accused the (otherwise inept) Bank of Greece governor Garganas of being responsible for the outrage because he did not designate who was going to man the skeleton operating staff on duty during the strike as provided by law !!! In other words, the strikers are calling ALL OF US moronic idiots by throwing out such a lame, pitiful excuse (even if the skeleton staff had been designated, the union, I’m sure, would have simply ignored the law).

It is a clear sign of how low Greek “democracy” has reached that none of the protagonists of these strikes would face any kind of sanction. In fact, we all watch helplessly as these vandals alternatively bait and patronize the overwhelming majority of the population during live TV newscasts and openly threaten the elected government of the country. Our “leaders” cower before these bosses. None of their crimes against the country will ever be punished, all of course to the glory of our “democratic institutions,” the very same at which the bosses laugh and thumb their noses.

Ronald Reagan (air traffic controllers) and Margaret Thatcher (miners) come to mind.
