Little Suzy

Prayer request from Tattletalesx2 for a friend's daughter. Suzy went into the hospital about 3 or 4 weeks ago from what started out as Roseola; it then turned into viral enchephalitis resulting in a very high fever, seizures and brain swelling. She just turned 1, and according to Tattletalesx2, she's the cutest, chunkiest, happiest baby out there. The family could use all of the support they can get right now.

Presented from Suzy's mom's point of view:

This weekend Suzy settled into the 7th floor of CHKD (the Rehabilitation Unit). She is expected to stay for at least 4 weeks, and then will be re-evaluated. As long as she is making progress, she will remain and receive treatment. While she is making some improvements clinically, her family remains very concerned about her. She had her most recent MRI on Friday, and unfortunately, her brain now shows atrophy, which is essentially 'shrinking of the brain,' caused by the swelling and inflammation from 2 weeks ago, which was caused from the virus that decided to settle in her brain 3 weeks ago. In the most blunt terms, she now shows permanent brain damage.

Her prognosis is very vague. Her family has been told by the nuerology team that they are completely unable to tell us what to expect for Suzy's future. She could remain the way she is, OR she could make a good recovery. Only time will tell. And the brain takes a LONG time to heal, and to re-learn the lost functions.
