The best anniversary gift

I have had a wonderful week celebrating my 9th anniversary to Kevin!
We were able to go out last night for a no-kids dinner at The Silver Fox. It was delicious and we had so much fun eating until we were stuffed full. The seafood bisque I had as an appetizer was the best soup I have ever put in my mouth!

One fun thing we do throughout the year is collect all of our loose change and put it in a big jar in our closet. Every year on our anniversary, we head to the bank to cash in our coins and then use the money we saved in change all year to help pay for our fancy dinner out. It has become a tradtion since we started doing it the first year we were married and helps us not feel as guilty about going out and spending a lot on a nice dinner.

But...

The best present I got this year was from my boys. On Wednesday (our actual anniversary), we went to put on Sam's tennis shoes and discovered he had literally outgrown them in the past week or so since he had worn them last! We headed to get him some new shoes and he insisted on tie shoes (instead of velcro). Since he wanted tie shoes, I told him we needed to start teaching him how to tie his own shoes. We came home and started practicing.

Fast forward a couple of hours and I hear this over the monitor while I'm folding laundry:

Sam: If I have to learn how to tie my shoes, then Seth, you need to learn how to use the potty. Take off your diaper and sit here on it and try.

Seth: Okay, Sam.

I walk into the bathroom (after hearing about a diaper removal, I always hurry to where they are!) and there is my sweet Seth sitting on the potty and GOING PEE-PEE for the first time! I couldn't believe my eyes and we all jumped up & down and congratulated him.

He has proceeded to wear pull-ups since then and is having just a few accidents each day. He has even gone poop three times too! Amazing! I think he is well on his way to getting the task accomplished.

So, I will always remember my 9th anniversary when my oldest potty-trained my youngest for me. What a great gift for me (and my wallet), not to mention that was the task I was least looking forward to this spring!
